Spaying and Neutering
In my contract I state that no dog may be spayed or neutered before twenty-four months of age. If a dog is spayed or neutered too early, the lack of mature reproductive organs impacts hormone production, preventing connective tissues from developing properly. These hormones impact the growth plates in dogs, and the loss of these hormones can lead to hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, and crutiate tears. The lack of hormones can also increase the likelihood of cancer. In this study, they do not recommend neutering male Dobermans ever, and waiting until twernty-four months is best for females.
